Computer Educations Role In Our Day To Day Life.

By computer education, we mean, making people computer literates, providing knowledge of basic concepts related to a computer and gaining the basic knowledge of computer operation. Knowing about the basic components of a computer, the basic concepts behind the use of computers and the know-how of some of the elementary computer applications constitutes computer education. Learning about the computer basics followed by a practical experience of using a computer is the key to computer education. As computers are widely used today, acquiring computer education is the need of the modern times.
The debate over the use of computers in public education dates back to at least 1983, when the federally appointed National Commission on Excellence in Education issued its report A Nation at Risk, which harshly criticized the failures of the U.S. educational system and tied them to the nations economic problem: Our once unchallenged preeminence in commerce, industry, science, and technological innovation is being overtaken by competitors throughout the world. . . . The educational foundations of our society are presently being eroded by a rising tide of mediocrity that threatens our very virtues as a Nation and a people. The report concluded. The nations school system followed this trend: According to American Prospect cofounder Paul Starr, Between 1981 and 1991, the proportion of schools with computers rose from 18 percent to 98 percent, and the number of students per computer fell from 125 to 18. Elementary and middle schools purchased mostly Apple computers, while high schools favored DOS-, and later, Windows-based machines. And as computer technology became more advanced, so too did the educational software that was marketed to schools. Computer-assisted education (CAI) was, and still is, touted as a potentially revolutionary new means of learning. PCs and general applications software made computing more flexible and easily adapted to different subjects and styles of teaching, writes Starr. He adds, Unlike motion pictures, radio, and TV, computers were far more susceptible to both student-centered and teacher-defined activities.

The database management software that are a part of computer systems serve as the means of managing large amounts of data.
